Overview

Andahuaylillas

It is famous for its 17th century colonial church, called the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas” because of the richness and beauty of its interior decorations.

It was built by the Jesuits and is considered a masterpiece of Andean Baroque art, its façade is simple but the interior is decorated with oil paintings and frescoes on the walls and ceilings. But all these works are nothing if we talk about the amount of gold that Andahuaylillas has, in other words, there is no other place with as much gold as in this church. In addition, the city has a beautiful plaza and cobblestone streets that offer a charming colonial atmosphere.
